Washington 2002
|
|
In June 2002, Melissa, our friend Emily Stumpf, and I drove up
to Washington to visit Melissa's family, and some of Emily's friends.
Here are some photos we took:
June 19, 2002 - The 14-hour drive:
- Melissa, waiting for me to unlock the
car
- A silhouette of Emily, in the back
- A lake, north of Sacramento
- Me (Bill Kendrick), driving!
- More of that lake
- Melissa, posing for Emily
- A cool, craggy, rocky mountain
- Mount Shasta, from a distance
- A volcano near Shasta
- Shasta...
- Volcano...
- Ok, now that's settled... No, wait!
Volcano!
- The volcano was close, big, and at
a cool angle
- More volcano
- Woah... A town named Weed!?
- Yes! A town named Weed!
- Weed City Limits. Population: 3000.
Elevation: 3,467 feet. Visitor: Emily
- I don't think I approve of this pose!
Drugs'r bad, mmmkay?
- Some trees
- Emily gets to drive, now
- Melissa continued copiloting
- A very rectangular hill
- Apparently, not a trick of the light
- Some very craggy rock - excuse the
window reflections
- A stair-stepped hill
- We appear to be near some logging
- I think I need a haircut
- Woah. Oakland? How the hell did we
end up in Oakland!?
- These trucks aren't doing what I think
they are, are they?
- Uhhh-huhuhuh. They are!
- Emily: Eyes on the road!
- A deer, on a nearly vertical cliff,
on the edge of the road. Well would you look at that!
- Oregon seems to have a lot of trees.
- A LOT of trees!
- But don't worry, they're taking care of
the problem!
- Huhuhuh... "Long Load."
Not photographed: Our lunch-and-refueling stop in
Ashland, Oregon, a college town, and home of a famous Shakespear
festival.
June 20, 2002 - Solstice party day
We headed to downtown Seattle while Melissa's parents went to work.
Not pictured: Our stop at some touristy places, and the
excellent tea and crumpets shop in downtown Seattle!
June 22, 2002 - Near-death lakexperience
June 23, 2002 - Emily's Friend
June 25, 2002 - Back to Oregon
Not shown: Our painful and frustrating attempts to
navigate Portland. Meeting up with some more of Emily's
friends. The excellent Himalayan restaurant we went to (when the
Indian one we were aiming for down the block was closed.)
That's all I took pictures of... Hope you enjoyed it!
